Crouching in one of the few specks of warm dirt in the dense woods, Sumire licked from the puddle left by the last rain. Her brown paws lined up at the very edge of the pool, delicately skirting the water. Wrapping her tail around herself, she leaned up, sniffing the air. She could feel something approaching, though she didn't know exactly what it might be. She'd not felt a yokai like that in quite some time, probably a couple hundred years ago. There was that city in the Tosa province... No, that city burned down years ago. Now if only she could remember exactly what it was that felt exactly like that, and what smelled like that... Human-esque, but not human. Definitely yokai.
Toeing around the edge of the pool, she followed the scent. Clambering over a pile of rocks, she hid in the natural cave created by the pile. Only her tiny white muzzle stuck out of the pile, her black nose twitching as she tried to place the scent. She pulled it back in as she heard movement, her dark blue eyes peering out of the hole. Her tails twitched in excitement as she looked, trying to spy the creature that moved like a human child, but smelled like a demon she couldn't quite place.

This forest was anything but an awesome place. And Miyu had been in some pretty crappy places in her past. At least it meant the bafoons chasing her weren't liking their life either right now. She hoped that was the case at least. The chances they liked their current situation as much as she did was unknown, but the only thing she was driving at right now. Her shoes were gone, Pudge struggling to keep up, and Sloth nowhere to be found. Great.
Just as she had figured her troubles were over, the little runt at her heels let out a yip and darted between her legs. "Gah, what the hell Pudge! I'm running from people here!," she snipped at him, now following him on his adjusted course. Screwy bugger what had set him off? It had better be food. Food that was worth getting caught. I mean, she had only just burned down an orphanage. There may not...probably wasn't...couldn't have been...any kids inside. Aw who was she kidding. Her doings were always the best. That meant some of the runts had crisped and sizzled. As her little pet would soon be if he led her astray.
Heading in this direction was not something the little rodent did for long. As their path approached a pile of rocks he shuffled to a halt, letting out more yips. "Yes Pudge, very good. Rocks. You found rocks....I. Don't. Need. Rocks. God you are so stupid sometimes," she scolded him before looking about for a branch to seize. If she ever found one, the little thing would surely remember who was the boss.
Just as she thought she had found a suitable branch her gaze caught something of equally more interest than beating her underling. Somewhere in that pile was something that owned the eyeball she was seconds away from poking. Her finger was wiggling slowly through the air as she neared the blue glob. "Hold still now, I just wanna poke your eyeball ok" she instructed whatever owned the eye she was so happily about to thrust her finger into.

Backing out of the pile, she leaped on top of the rocks and sat down. Her tails wrapped neatly around her paws as she gave the young kitsune a hard stare. He was acting like a pet dog, of all things. No fox would be that ridiculous unless they were too young to know better, especially considering that the fact that they were meant to serve Inari, not some ridiculous demon child. Still, she couldn't very well insult the little creature. His parents should be the ones instructing him on the ways of kitsune until the age of one-hundred years, when he got his second tail. This little one didn't have parents looking after it, and was still young enough to have a single tail. The poor dear.
Gently licking her fur down flat, she looked at the demon, tilting her head slightly in interest. This creature was nowhere near Sumire's age, clearly, and still not as powerful. But what she still couldn't place was what manner of demon she was. It was vaguely familiar, but not familiar enough for her to place. There were many demons that could appear as a child, although they usually chose a human form a bit younger in appearance than this one. This one was practically an adolescent, so she didn't use the child disguise to draw in sympathetic travelers predominantly.
"So, what are you supposed to be?" she asked softly, turning her gaze from the young fox to the demon. "A collector, are you?"
Sumire blinked down at the young kitsune again, giving a small frown to the pitiful creature. She wasn't looking to take on any strays, so "Pudge" would have to work out his own life, at the risk of gaining the rage of Inari, and losing his power of voice forever. The power of voice was one gained upon the second hundred years, with the second tail. He might be one of the poor creatures who joined the voiceless beasts of the forest. Not her problem.

What was she? Now there was a question rather high up on the list you don't ask an egotistical maniac. It made her compelled to talk, but in a manner that you clearly should know every single word that was about to escape her lips. A chuckle was produced before she formulated an answer.
"Well, I'm..well, what I am isn't entirely important. What's more important is what I'm good at. That's one hell of a list though, so I'll tell you what I'm not good at. Nothing. That's right deary, I'm good at whatever I wanna be. Even taming runts like you. I know what you're thinking. Nope. No way. Miyu can't tame me. But let me ask ya, have you ever felt the wrath of someone as great as me?," she boasted.
It was a bit obvious compared to her other two kitsunes in company that the task would be more daunting. A challenge right now could be good though, keep her on her toes and her skills sharpened. After all, why only have two pets running about when she could have three? And then, what was stopping her from having four? The sky, or rather the amount of magical foxes, was the limit. Finding that number could be rather fun. Hell, she might even start taming other things then. Like dogs
"So what's it gonna be toots, should I go grab a branch now or are you gonna behave unlike this knucklehead?" she asked, glaring down at the orange runt near her ankles.

Sumire watched the demon child's display with an impassive eye, tilting her head in amusement. It was just like watching a little human child that was too used to getting its way. It would suit her well to get a good thrashing with a switch, but that wasn't quite Sumire's style. She could always take a sword to the brat, but... No, she would have fun with this one, considering that it had been so long since she had humbled someone. Granted, it was usually humans that warranted this sort of treatment, but every now and again, she had to try something new. After all, what was more fun than the lion taming a lion tamer?
"Oh, what is a poor little fox like me to do in the face of such power?" she asked, raising a paw to her forehead in an over-dramatic gasp.
She held the position for a few moments before hopping off of the rock and licking the small red fox on the top of the head. She was roughly twice the size of the creature, at the moment anyway. A ribbon? Tacky, even by human standards. Stepping away, Sumire headed down the little trail, kicking a little dirt back toward the demon child as she moved. Her tails twisted and writhed like snakes behind her, all six flowing like her own natural ribbons. The dirt felt warm and damp underfoot, much to her preference. It reminded her of the summer afternoons she spent with her parents near the beach. Despite the cool breeze, the sand hand always retained a certain warmth.
Turning, she laughed her bark-like laugh, then disappeared into a pile of leaves half her size.
The bark-like laugh echoed in the trees around them as the wind picked up and the leaves blew into the air and swept through the breeze into the trees, leaving nothing where Sumire had disappeared. The illusion was simple enough, but then most of them were, once anyone knew how it worked. This kind of trick was far beyond the skills of creatures as young and inexperienced as her two little "pets".

Now, that was rather unnecessary. Just who did this little furball think she was? It wasn't like Miyu wouldn't get a stick to crack over her head in the near future. As the fox darted off a huff was given out, serving to signify the impressiveness that was not rendered onto the girl. Fiddling about the various 'pockets' produced herself some relief, sparking her pipe up.
"Alright Pudge, let's go find this rascal and whack her a good one," she instructed her pet before walking in the direction the other had gone. Along her way she found herself just what she had been looking for: a decent sized stick that had just enough green left to not snap. It was the perfect tool to bring down onto a muzzle.
Shuffling about made her nerves tinge into a worse mood with each step. Where did that fox get off? Did she not recognize greatness when she was faced with it? Clearly she needed more than just one lesson.

In the form of a leaf, it was easy to ride the wind to a height where she could see over the tops of the trees. It was a beautiful view, really. The only mar was the column of smoke off of the horizon. It wasn't a worrisome column, given that they were in the midst of the rainy season and fire was unlikely to spread in the woods, but she had to wonder if it had something to do with this unpleasant creature walking on the forest floor below her. She landed in the trees before shifting back into her fox form, watching the demon from high above. She was nothing but an irritant that Sumire could easily brush aside, but that didn't mean that Sumire was done with her. It could be fun to have such a creature to mess with.
Plucking a branch off of the tree, she chuckled to herself before transforming back into a leaf and floating down behind the Miyu. As she changed back, she landed audibly and assumed her part-fox form, with human proportions, but fox-features. Her six tails poked up from under her white kimono, her large head was like that of a fox with long red human hair falling somewhere near her shoulders. She grinned, baring her pointed teeth as she knelt and placed the branch in front of her before bowing. Picking it back up, she wielded it in front of her like a katana.
"We must observe the proprieties, yes?" she asked, tilting her head playfully. "After all, we are civilized, not barbarians."
Her tails swished behind her, swirling around as they were apt to do. The kitsune stood considerably taller than the demon child, but her dark blue eyes seemed to regard her respectfully, as an opponent.

Something about this fox was off. Way off. And not in a way Miyu was enjoying any longer. Did it ever occur to her a stick was not a sword? A stick was a stick. It was meant to whack things. Things like unruly foxes and other creatures. If this thing had the intent of turning the idea upon her, she was in for quite the experience.
"No no, you're holding it all wrong. It's a stick..like this," she explained, seizing her own switch in one hand firmly. How on earth had she gotten stuck having to explain such a concept. You don't two hand a stick for beating someone, that takes much energy. And in some cases, you might need that second hand for continued beatings.
Then something the woman mentioned finally rang in Miyu's scatterbrained little lump of mush. She thought she was civilized? Hell, do civilized people do the things she did? It wasn't every day she considered bandits civilized. And since that was her current goal, becoming the most notorious bandit, uncivilized it would be. "I see you're mistaken on a number of things. From how to properly hand out a bashing to where my brain is at on this matter. Now then, you wanna wield that thing foolishly like a stick, so be it" she warned before dropping her stick.
Just because Sumire wanted to throw up a twig for a sword didn't mean Miyu was about to return the same courtesy. Instead her tiny fingers were wrapping around her blades, drawing them out slowly.

Sumire bared her pointed teeth in a canine smile as she saw the demon's fingers move toward her swords. Ohh, so she wanted a sword-fight, did she? That was a different matter entirely. The kitsune had been training and fighting with swords for the past four-hundred years, and it would give her even more opportunity to toy with this upstart. Snatching a leaf as it fell to the ground, she transformed it in a cloud of dust as she sat on a rock, laying the stick against it as if the rock was an anvil. The leaf had become a hammer, and she slammed it down upon the twig, looking as if she was concentrating.
Her attire had turned into that of a peasant blacksmith, with a bandanna tied around her foxish snout. As she pounded down on the stick, a loud clanging echoed through the trees. It was not the thud of a hammer against a stick, but rather a hammer against steel. Wiping her forehead with the back of her forearm, she pulled a rag out of her clothes and rubbed along the length of the twig. As the rag moved over the stick, it transformed into a sword, until only the hilt was a stick. Turning it carefully, she ran the rag over that as well, and it transformed. Standing, she picked up the katana. Clapping her hand to it, she drew away a second sword.
"If it's swords you wanted to play, why didn't you say so?" she asked with a grin.
Spinning theatrically, her garb transformed again, back into the white kimono with the red obi. She wielded the twin swords, one arched above her, the other extended toward her opponent. This was going to be too much fun....

At some point in the very near future, Miyu was going to have to make it clear to her new pet that being flashy got you nowhere in life. Sure, it looked cool and all, but was there a purpose? Nope. She had swords now. Cool. Could she still have em by just drawing them? Yup. Maybe she had attention issues...
Shaking the wandering thoughts aside, an analysis was attempted on the would be opponent. Twin blades, much like her own, held in a stance she had used from time to time as well. It was always fun dueling with another individual who had the thought process to wield two swords. One was too much power and made you miss. Something large and unruly meant you could hardly fight close in. Two was just right.
Her hands finally positioned where she had decided would be optimal for this unruly creature. With her left hand she gripped the shorter blade and in her right the longer. Both were on the left side of her body, pointing away. In truth, only the one in her left hand was held in reverse. "Care to make this interesting?" she offered, grinning wide enough most of her teeth were showing.
"I draw blood first, you become my new pet. You draw blood first, I won't roast you alive," she explained. A highly on sided bet. But that was just how her brain worked. Either she won, or she won.

She couldn't help but smirk as the Miyu made her offer. Somehow, this creature actually believed that she would defeat Sumire. What a fool... The only choice to be made here was choosing just how long she would toy with the little demon child. To be honest, it was getting a little old, since the creature never seemed to clue in to what her true situation was. How had such a creature survived so long with an attitude like that, and with such a lack of ability to learn when she is over-matched? Didn't especially matter, though she wasn't really in the mood to kill a Miyu. Whatever it was.
"You're really funny for a brat," she asserted with a small chuckle. "However, a servant of Inari has no room for other masters. Better luck with lesser yokai."
She wasn't about to make a promise to this disgusting creature, since kitsune took their promises very seriously. There was not a situation in which she would consider becoming its pet, even if, by some miracle, the brat drew first blood. Her ears swiveled as she gave a canine smile, her pointed teeth bared. The deep blue of her eyes flashed lavender as she transitioned to another stance with her twin blades. Her tail twisted behind her, the tip darting around smoothly.
Really, there wasn't much point in even bothering with the swords, aside from making her point and proving to the cretin that it had no chance.
